  Linux Compatibility

  Hardware Compatibility

A. Power Savings as of Kernel 2.6.5 isn't working with acpi. When using APM, sleeping works but cannot be resumed from. Ergo, it's useless.

B. Battery Status does work sometimes...  when not charging the status can disappear... this is not limited to Linux, same problem in XP.

C. Video card works fine, but is not accelerated. (~266FPS with glxgears) Modern 3d games are impossible to play.

D. Sound works flawlessly, volume is controlled with special keys via acme (gnome 2.4)

E. CD-Burning works fine, nothing special required

F. DVD playing works fine with mplayer and xine

G. Touchpad works flawlessly with the synaptics driver

H. Network card works (of course)

I. USB works

J. IR (how the hell do I get this working?)

K. SoftModem works (getting the driver was a bit of trouble, tho)

  Problems so far

A. The Power Jack in the rear of the laptop was damaged and frequently stops powering the laptop, and a dead battery soon results if I'm not careful.  Often, even when power cable is in the jack, and the battery charge light is on, the battery drains. Contact is bad, I need to get it repaired. (Got it fixed :)

B. Power Savings, mentioned above, doesn't work. Very annoying.

C. Keys sometimes act screwy... luckily, none have broken yet.. Why do laptop keyboards have to be so flimsy?

D. Processor is running at less than optimal speed. I specially ordered this laptop with a faster processor. Why isn't it running at full speed? No option in the bios..

  Nice stuff about this laptop

A. It's fast... yay!

B. Screen is really nice, bright and clear... yay!

C. Touchpad is fine, for short periods of time... (logitech trackball for long sessions) and the built in scroll buttons are sweet for webbrowsing.

D. Yesterday's Games play nicely on windows, but on Linux 3D Acceleration support is pathetic. Why can't ATI release drivers that support the Radeon M6 LY cards (instead of us being forced to use drivers with only decent 2D support)?
